Stars Wowed in Glitz and Glamorous Gowns @ Met Costume Institute Gala 2010

The fabulous women of the “Hollywood spotlight” really wowed the cameras at this year’s Met Costume Institute Gala.  Although there were still the innovative gowns that are rather out there in style, but artistically fun to look at ; there was surprisingly a lot more dressed to kill in fabulous, floor-length, classier gowns than ever before seen.

These women below made my jaw drop in “awe,” who can even begin say which is their favorite, I love them all!

Nicole Richie in a gorgeous silver gown by Marc Jacobs

Kristen Bell in a gown by Monique Lhuillier

Zoe Saldana looked classy and sleek in a number by Calvin Klein

Rachel Weisz looked stood out in this beautiful fuscia gown by Oscar de la Renta

Camilla Belle was one of my absolute favorites resembling old hollywood glamour in a feminine "Pretty Woman" dress by Jason Wu

Kate Hudson always screams beauty in white, a gown by Stella McCartney

Eva Longoria in Dolce & Gabbana

Diane Kruger in Josh Jackson look absolutely breathtaking in my opinion because of her complete classic and elegantly simple look.

Taylor Swift in Ralph Lauren adorned the perfect combination of sweet and elegant!

Emma Watson was bewitching in what else? Burberry of course!

Another white-hot gown worn by Kristen Dunst

Jessica Szohr looked fierce in Versace

Claire Danes looked amazing in Burberry

Mila Kunis looked gorgeous in a black and white gown

Famous little black dress with a twist!

This past weekend I tried on an amazing black Theory dress.  It was a perfectly fitted staple to add to my closet, already adorning a perfect accessory a thin, black and gold belt. (A good one too, unlike the fake cheap ones added to dresses just to give you an idea of how to accessorize the dress.)

Trying on this dress, I thought about my wardrobe and how I have failed to invest in that perfect LBD (little black dress).  Wondering why I had always passed on such a classic piece in the past definitely made me think about why the LBD even became known as a “staple.”  Why have so many woman (especially stars like Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie) continued to dawn this look time after time?  I think the most obvious answer to the proceeding question lies in our star-struck gazes while viewing the photos below.  Each designer these actresses are wearing has taken the perfect LBD, a “staple,” and so creatively given it a fun, quirky and tastefully (might I add) an unusual twist, that many designers in the past have not.

Who doesn't love Blake Lively in this bad-gal number by D&G?

Leave it to Leighton Meester to find the edgiest LBD around, but like I said earlier definitely a fun twist compared to your everyday, black dress. A risk that designer Christopher Kane chose to make, unlike many others.

When does Michael Kors ever make a bad design? This dress is a perfect combination of bringing out the more classic side of an edgy piece. And what better actress to rock this look than Fergie, a woman with some edge who gets in touch with her classic sense of style for a red carpet event.

Emile de Ravin showing off her gorgeous gams in a more sexier number than normal designed by Oscar de la Renta.

Gemma Arterton wears sheer cutouts gracefully, by Gucci

Another Oscar de la Renta gown, this time showing more of his classier Audrey Hepburn designs worn by Kristin Davis.

Alexa Davalos proves that a one-shouldered gown can still be 100% classic, especially when designed by Ralph Lauren, a man who exudes timelessness in all of his collections.

Who would have thought Angelina Jolie would start a trend after rocking a strapless, black, leather-cocktail dress and making it seem timeless. Similar looks are continuously dawned on the Red Carpet, like this Thomas Wylde dress on Miley Cyrus.

Jennifer Aniston is the queen or sporting the famous LBD, but very rarely does she wear one with such a twist like this sequined, skirted Valentino micro-mini.

I can easily see myself rocking a shorter depiction of this Rachel Roy dress worn by Kate Hudson at any club downtown!

Kate Winslet in another beautiful piece dawning sexy, lace cut-outs.

Love the one-shouldered, grecian look to this dress. It flatters Mila Kunis beautifully!

Love the one-shouldered, Grecian look to this dress. It flatters Mila Kunis beautifully!

After seeing how the celebrities above have all chosen to wear such beautiful black numbers on the red carpet over any other color, I believe it is safe me to assume that for any event, any day, any time it is safe to say that one can never go wrong with an LBD.  Seeing the beautiful effect that the above dresses has had on all the stars yet again proves to me that a black dress whether long or short, one-shouldered or strapless, leather or silk, sequined or lace, belted or gathered, has and will remain a “staple” because it is an option that never fails. Usually more times than not, this is the time stars can skip out on the fear of being worst dressed.

That is why one should always own that perfect go to black dress and/or that famous LBD with a twist, because when in doubt go for the black dress.  If I am afraid of my dress to appearing boring then I will add fun colored pump or different colored jewelry to spice things up and drawn one’s attention in.

Academy Award’s Nude Starlets:

So I already said how nude is this spring’s color… and yet again starlets proved it at this year’s 2010 Academy Awards.  Every woman displayed some version of nude whether it have a silver, gold, pink or any other tone in the nude family these Hollywood gals displayed beauty and poise at the Oscars!

Anna Kendrick a newcomer who starred in "Up In The Air," some may better know her from "Twilight" dawned Elie Saab at this year's Osacrs

I love the elegant draping of this dress along with the subtle fabric and color. I especially adore the lace detail at the dresses slit in front.

The detail on the back of this Elie Saab dress is my favorite part about it... there is something about button detailing on a dress that I love. I once went to a wedding where the bride wore a gorgeous, ivory dress that just beautifully skimmed her curves perfectly and all along her backside in the middle from the top to the bottom was a button detail just like this, I loved it!

Miley Cyrus flaunted her own version of Cinderella in a gown by Jenny Packham

I have to admit I was very surprised with Cyrus' choice... the dress is perfect for her in my opinion. The cut, color, and detail of this dress are all very much in style, trend-savvy and just down right gorgeous for her. The subtle sparkle detail and the tulle skirt mixed with the fitted, satin bodice give it both enough edge and glamour without going overboard and still allowing her to look young and youthful!

Now if only she could shake that slouch or maybe barrow someone else's stance for the evening. I can't tell if the dress is to tight around her waist or up top in the dress and therefore does not fit well or if it is just the way she is standing.

Demi Moore looked beautiful and as usual not showing her age at all while wearing a gown by Atelier Versache.

This one is my favorite out of all the nude dresses, it is very different and unique in its own way without being over-the-top and too much. Props to Demi!!

The way the dress moves when she walks is so perfect in all its elegance that you can tell this was hand-crafted and that each tier of ruffles lays nicely over the other without adding bulk to the bottom half of the figure.

Kate Winslet looked stunning as usual in Atelier Yves Saint Laurent

I know that many others found this dress boring, which I disagree with completely! Some made that statement when comparing it to her dresses in the past, which is legitimate, but I still don't think boring is the correct word. If you are comparing this with one Winslet's dresses at the Oscars in the past then the only thing you will find that you are able to say is different. At the end of the day less is more and Kate Winslet proves that statement in this dress!

This dress of course is more on the silver and gold side of the nude family, but still very subtle in color and more bold in its embellishment, which I would love to see in person. This cut is very cinderella and I love how Cameron Diaz added her own spunky personality by wearing red/pink lipstick and her hair down in voluptuous waves!

Sandra Bullock channeled old hollywood glamour in sleek straight hair with a slight curl towards the bottom, a slight twist from the usual red lipstick in more of pink shade and a beautiful lace and sequins embellished Marchesa gown.

Diane Kruger uses the dress' nude color to really make all the different detail and black accents on her gown really pop and get notice by the eye. I think she looks lovely in this Chanel Couture number.
